Aidan striking a pose with all the drift goodies sold from his home in Japan.

Henry : Drifting makes you happy? It makes me happy too!!! hehe...

Aidan: hehehe...what’s drift? :P

Henry: Hey, when did you move to Japan? Was this before or after you got into rc drifting?

Aidan: Before I got into rc drifting. ‘tis a long and boring story.

Henry: We won't get into it then. I thought you may have moved to Japan just so you can get closer to 1:1 drifting and all those rc drifting goodies! :P

Aidan: hahaha..no mate. I discovered drift by being here! I have always been into cars but more on a 1:1 scale.

Henry: I'll guess then you moved to Japan 'cause of some trouble you caused in Australia? Escaping from the law, Fast and the Furious style? Hehehe… You Australians are a roudy bunch and fun to party with. I've partied with a few while I was in the Philippines who happened to be in “exile.”

Aidan: hahahaha....I wasn't running away. I don't mind a bit of fun though!

Henry: So when did you start getting into rc drifting? Did you find it in Japan first or the internet?

Aidan: RC Drifting...through a friend in Australia who had his finger on the pulse about 2 and a half years ago....he was into rockcrawling and designed one of the most popular rockcrawling chassis! Anyway I was shipping gear for him and then he mentioned I should get some drift gear..and from then I became more and more interested... No, it has become an addiction.

Henry: An addiction indeed. It's almost worse than being a backpacking European who can’t seem to find his way out of a Chinese opium den. Do you speak Japanese when you contact your distributors or sources?

Aidan: No choice. English isn't that common here.

Henry: Sweet, a man of many talents. Did you learn there or in Australia?

Aidan: Here....jumped in the deep end so to speak. My Japanese ain't great but I get by .

Henry: Seeing an Aussie speak Japanese must drive the chicks nuts over there.

Aidan: hahaha..it does!

Henry: I met a doctor who said his brother went to the Philippines a few years ago on a business trip and he hasn't come back. As his brother put it, over here, he's Tom Arnold. over in the Philippines, he's Tom Cruise. lol...

Aidan: hahaha..bingo!  I have been compared to David Beckham and Robert De Niro..you pick which one!

Henry: Beckham vs. DiNiro... you can't lose. lol...Anyway, back to drift. what's your drift weapon of choice?

Aidan: At the moment I am pimping the TA03F...and loving it . It needs some tuning but overall I am impressed! I was drifting a TA04 which was a great drifter...However it is now my back up chassis.

Henry : Besides, being into rc drifting for almost 2 years now, I can say that a good drifter can drift ANY chassis and its all about preference and setup. but then again, I haven't tried a front mounted motor chassis.

Aidan: I would have to agree..that is the good thing about drift, you don't really need the best chassis to be able to participate.

Henry: Its not like rc racing where it has become an arms race...

Aidan: hahaha..indeed! I see guys locally with imacculate chassis but then there are the drifters in the corner running anything and loving it without the seriousness of racing! All about atmoshpere!

Henry: Our group of guys is the same way. We just go out and have fun. But as soon as spring hits and the winter race season is over, we're planning on a Saturday drift meet. Hopefully guys from Toronto and the rest of the Northeast can make it. It's still in the works...

Aidan: That is what the heart of RC Drifting is about really...getting together and having fun.....I have 2 partners in time but being Japan people work to death so we don't always meet! Not that many peole drift around here but they sell a lot of Drift Packages!

Aidan's most current pride and joy - Evo VII.

Henry : So you're up there in age with odyssey, mitch and philchrome - and me. It seems like it's the older guys who are trying to take charge and get things organized for rc drifting. What do you think about it? Did we just fail to grow up or these kids don't have what it takes to sustain rc drifting as a organized hobby?

Aidan: Wow, good question! I guess it just a matter of who is willing to take the bull by the horns! I wouldn’t  say take charge as such but we are definately motivated to see drift become more than a fad..and I believe it will! I always compare it to the skateboard scene..I believe it will rise and fall but there will be a few who remain drifting until it stabilises!

Henry: Where is rc drifting headed to these days?

Aidan: I think 2007 will be a big year for drift especially with the GD, D1RC and the WA series starting up next year. Unfortunately I think the LHS see it as a fad! But we know better!

Henry: You're one of the major players in this hobby. How long do you see yourself in this?

Aidan: Till I am old and grey. Hang on, that is now! I am working on a few things for the future so you could say as long as the hobby is around I will be here. (fingers crossed)

Henry: It's good to have guys like you and Dustin around. Without you guys, our shells would be boring. So, who makes the best shells?

Aidan: Ouch...cruel question! I think it is personal choice they all have good and bad. Yokomo are going places, Tamiya has detail but a tad narrow for my liking!

Henry: Best rims?

Aidan: hahaha...goes without saying....Speedway Pal.

Henry: Body of the Year?

Aidan: I have to say when I did see the RE Amemiya body it was impressive..Yokomo bring it back!

Henry : Since you're the guru of rc drift parts, which painted shell do you think deserves body of the year?

Aidan: I ain't no guru..:P Wow..too many to choose from! I am liking Serps S15 at the moment as well as Mitch's 180SX....I like em all!!! Everybody does good work!

Henry : Spoken like a politician. you just dodged a bullet. I was testing ya.

Aidan: Cheers! Sometimes you have to be diplomatic even though you want to say Mitch's R34 Z-Tune really rocked my socks off..opps did I say that?

Henry: lol... I saw that one. It was nominated at DRC. Thanks for supporting BOTM@DRC. I really hope that your support brings you more sales and more people into the hobby. Definitely your support has helped garner more interest in BOTM. It's a part of the hobby that people love and you just don't get from just racing RCs.

Aidan: Indeed. We just need more member participation. So come on folks...BOTM here now!!! Join in the fun!!!

Henry: Anyone you want to give a shout out too?

Aidan: Can I paste my customer list here? But seriously I would like to thank My wife, Mitch (Ausdrift), Matt, Trung (aka dorifto), Chris (aka qwux), Jack (Ausdrift), Tachi for his patience, Yoshikura san for being so helpful (Speedway Pal), Serp (Brisdrift), Robert (RCD1), Phil, Otis and basically all the customers and those that have supported http://www.genkidoridori.com , without you it wouldn't exist....and of course you fine self for all your efforts.

Henry: Aidan, thanks for taking the time to share your story with the rest of the rc drifting world. I know you’ve got a busy schedule with work and sending out all those rc drift goodies to the rest of the world. May your drift shop continue to grow and prosper, and the Japanese girls in short tight skirts never stop chasing you for your David Beckham/RobertDiNiro looks! Cheers!
