So Im new to Rc Drifting and just picked up a Sprint 2 from a local store. And after taking on a few runs Im having trouble actually getting the car to drift and I think its the tires. The ones that came with it are a rather hard compound but they also have alot of grip. So my question is What kind of tires should I get and are there any other brands that fit on HPI cars?

Benzo
Try out HPI T drifts, or if on a budget get a piece of black 2inch diameter ABS pipe and cut to desired width. When you go to get the ABS pipe take one rim with you to make sure you get the right diameter pipe.

Is that what alot of people just end up doing? just using Pvc and what not?

Most people use HPI t-drifts....also, you more than likely have to lock your rear differential. That will help out alot.
Frias_christian
How do you do that? Is there a Guide for it?

There's a "How To" on locking a ball diff in this thread.

aren't the yoko drift tires pretty good for beginners?
Frias_christian
Well I couldent find any ABS pipe so I just got some PVC but its WAY to Slick it might just be the surface im running on but im not too sure, so im probably just going to buy some Drift tires.

Like the man said, T-Drifts.
Evanalmighty
wow why is everything so complicated just take pvc pipe and if its too slippery make some grooves with a knife...
JT
Because if you add any sort of tread pattern to your tyre the grooves will catch on uneven surfaces/grit etc and cause the drift to be adversely affected. It's why so many drivers rejected the otherwise very nice looking treaded T-Drifts during the '09 season.

I fail to see tho point of giving advise on a subject that you openly say you know nothing about dry.gif rolleyes.gif

Go with the mighty T-drifts because ABS sucks plain and simple, why spend time, effort and money trying to make them work when you can buy a much better product so much easier!!
The T's are great for beginers and vetran drifters alike, easy to fit and drive outa the box/bag and with some clever suspension work/settings a vetran can produce even more grip from these beautys.

Sorry dude,
Why the censored.gif would you go to all the effort of looking for the right size ABS/PVC tube, then have to cut it, file the edges so you don't catch anything bigger than 1mm. Then glue it to some nice rims for a semi-permement fitting. Let along cut into the surface which would give you minimal extra grip and wear off in a matter of minutes.

Every set of home made tyres i've seen look shite. I really don't know why people insist on making them when a full set of genuine slick T's are not that expensive.
